Neil Rimer — Co-Founder & Partner (1996–present)
The co-founder who turned a Geneva bond house into a global venture firm. Son of Gerald Rimer — founder of the Swiss bond-and-derivatives firm Index Securities (1976) — Neil finished at Stanford's business school and was recruited by his father in 1992 to build a technology-investment arm. In 1996 he, his brother David, and Giuseppe Zocco spun it out as Index Ventures.
His founding conviction is the seed of the whole firm: ambition, not geography, is the scarce input in venture. World-class companies could be built in Europe when almost no one believed it — and proving that, from Geneva, is what made everything transatlantic possible.
He anchored the firm's European roots and its institutional spine, and he led Index into Roblox — now a public company worth tens of billions and one of the firm's largest returns — while pushing into frontier areas including health and climate. He is one of the many Index partners to have personally picked a fund-returner, which is exactly the point: the firm's founder is himself a data point in its defining pattern.
In the talent-moat frame: Neil built the container — a single global partnership with shared economics — that lets a deep bench of returner-pickers operate as one firm. He also authored Rewarding Talent, the clearest statement that the firm treats talent as the asset.
